Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave (Isabelle de Borchgrave) can turn plain paper into precious silk, brocade, satin, velvet and the finest lace.

It makes the historic Royal costumes made of paper with such illusory precision that magical dress – faux all convinced that stitched out of luxurious fabrics.

Isabel de Borchgrave the idea of paper dresses, made in the technique of trompe l"oeil (trompe l"oeil), appeared in 1994, after visiting American retrospective of works by Yves St-Лорана. Together with the canadian designer Rita brown they"re up to reconstruct the history of fashion from 17th century to the present day and implemented this ambitious project.

Paper was chosen because it is cheap and in case of error during operation, you can just take the next clean sheet. The material gives a great opportunity to simulate different textures by chemical reactions, is easily painted in any color, cut out, cut imitates lace, embroidery etc. Later, with his assistants, Isabelle de Borchgrave recreated the history of fashion through the repetition of historical costumes from different eras depicted in the portraits of the great artists of the past. This massive and complex task required not only huge amounts of scientific knowledge of history and fashion, but also the ability to skillfully work in different techniques of painting and drawing. The process of creating a costume is very time consuming. Still working with a paper suit, the designer has started to do the interior, but from the tight finishing of fabrics, porcelain, ceramics and bronze. Her wrought iron chairs, bronze tables, fabric cushions and ceramic dishes feature elegant décor and bright colors. Today she collaborates with such giants of the industry of home decor and fashion, as Target, Villeroy @Boch amp, Caspari and Hermès.
