After more than a quarter century since his departure from the life of the scale and importance of preserving their cultural and historical heritage of the country suggests the Savitsky in superlatives. In the less than twenty years of leadership by the museum in Nukus, of which he was, he managed to create the biggest names in coverage and outstanding quality collection of paintings of the 1920-1930-ies. Tens of thousands of items constituting the foundation of the museum, now bears his name, represent an impressive panorama of the artistic life of the country in the era between two wars. Collection Savitsky, in contrast to other major collections of his time (for example - George Kostaki) wears the character is not the personal subjective taste collector, and pursues the goal of a comprehensive scientific approach to the study of artistic movements. Foundation of this study - are not isolated examples of art separate groups of artists, and monographic review of each of them, which allows to draw conclusions and generalizations, make comparisons, evaluating individual creative style and method of artists of the 1920's.
Deep knowledge of world history, culture, impeccable taste and flair to the findings, human decency and dignity, and boundless love for the works of art, regardless of the regalia and the degree of Fame sponsors: whether it is a picture or an exquisite rug Falk of unknown Karakalpak masters - all of this possible Savitsky find, save and, thus, make inviolable for future generations are milestones cultures of the peoples of Russia and Karakalpakstan.
Figure Savitsky is a keen interest outside the country by formulating a different approach and evaluate its activities. In these interpretations, unfortunately, are often dominated by "ideological" subtext, articulated the position of museum workers are often not typical of him, imposed image of the "warrior" for freedom and almost no dissident.
Our exhibition should not be the problem of determining the place and role in the process of Savitzky preservation of cultural heritage, it - offering collector who has devoted his life to real art.
Exposition form works from Moscow private collections of the painters and graphic artists that have been lovingly selected by Savitsky in Nukus "emigration". Since it was intended to in the pages of publications devoted to this event, jointly met (at least virtually) works by artists from the State Art Museum of Karakalpakstan and Moscow private collections.
Most of the works exhibited and published. This album contains valuable information about the life and work of Savitzky as museum director and painter. For the first time played his texts on the surviving manuscripts, memoirs of his friends and colleagues. Individual sections of the artists include unknown materials archives as well as specially prepared for this publication.
