Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817 – 1900) – the great Russian artist of Armenian descent. He was a patron and an honorary member of the Rome, Paris and amsterdamski Academies of arts.

Born Ivan Konstantinovich 17 (29) July 1817
in Feodosia. In childhood Ivan had revealed an aptitude for music and drawing. The first lessons of artistic skill was given to him Feodosia famous architect, J. H. Koch.
Becoming a graduate school, Aivazovsky entered the Simpheropol gymnasium. After graduation, under the patronage of the mayor of Feodosiya A. I. Kaznacheev, the future artist was enrolled in the Metropolitan Imperial Academy of arts.
In August 1833, Aivazovsky arrived in St.-Петербург. He studied with such masters as M. Vorobiev, F. Tanner, A. I. Sauerweid. His pictures, painted during his training, was awarded a silver medal. Aivazovsky was so gifted a student that he was released from the Academy 2 years early. For independent works of Ivan Konstantinovich sent first to his native Crimea, and then abroad on a business trip for 6 years.

in the Spring of 1838 Aivazovsky went to the Crimea. There he created the sea, engaged in battle painting. In the Crimea, he spent 2 years. Then, together with W. Sternberg, and his friend at the landscape class, the artist went to Rome. On the way, they visited Florence and Venice, where he acquainted Aivazovsky with N. Gogol.

Personal life Aivazovsky was not rich. He married twice. The first marriage was contracted in 1848, the wife of the artist was J. A. Graves. From this marriage was born four daughters. The happy Union was not, and 12 years later the couple parted. The main reason for the separation was that the Graves, unlike her husband, wanted to live the high life in the capital.
Second wife Aivazovsky became A. N. Sarkisova-Бурзанян. She was young Aivazovsky for 40 years and survived him by 44 years.
Death
Aivazovsky died suddenly in the night from a brain hemorrhage on April 19 (may 2), 1900, in Feodosia. On the easel remained unfinished painting “ship Explosion” over which worked great the day before. He was buried in the Armenian Church Surb Sargis.
