In 1820 Venetsianov completely abandoned political Affairs and service in favour of painting. He moved to his house, he focused on the depiction of peasants and village life. Plakhov, A. Tyranov, K. Zelentsov, S. Sarenko and G. Mikhailov). To pay all the costs of the school Venetsianov appealed to Nicholas I with a request for financial support. In 1830, the king appointed Alexei Gavrilovich as his court painter with a salary of 3000 rubles.

Religious painting: the miracle

Apart from the favourite peasant subjects, Venetsianov was engaged in religious painting, fulfilling orders for nearby churches. Interestingly, the images of Christ, the virgin and the apostles appear all the same familiar features of ordinary peasants (the artist remained true to his ideas).

a year before his death, Alex Gavrilovic has received an important order - the painting of the Church in Kalyazin. Among other images, he needed to naristi the image of the monk Makarii of Kalyazinsk. The artist was not familiar with the history of this Saint and have been looking for pictures with him. Alexey Gavrilovich Venetsianov was 67 years old when he was tragically killed in a traffic accident on a snowy road.
