ACADEMIC REALISM

Artist Alexey Kharlamov was born in October of 1840 in the village of Dacica Petrovsky uyezd, Saratov province in the family of a serf. Alexei was the seventh child in the family.

Shortly after the birth of Alexei, the landlord decided to sell the parents of the future artist to another landlord, and to leave children in his household.

Since Alex was very young, then sold it with their parents. In 1850 the family Harlamova got freedom, and soon moved to St-Петербург.

the age of 12 Alex Kharlamov began taking painting lessons from a volunteer at the Academy of arts I V. Afanasyev. After two years of studying, in 1854, Kharlamov entered the Imperial Academy of arts in class of Professor of A. T. Markov. For success in painting and drawing the listener Kharlamov was awarded two Small silver medals (in 1857 and 1862 years), and in 1863 — has two Large silver medals. In 1866 Alexey Kharlamov was awarded a Small gold medal for the painting" Крещение Kiev", and after two years – Big gold medal for the painting" Возвращение of the prodigal son in the parent дом".

In 1869 Kharlamov, as a pensioner of the Academy, travels abroad where he visited museums in Germany, Switzerland, great Britain, Italy and Spain, Holland and Belgium. The artist lives and works in Paris.

In 1872, Alexey Kharlamov became a member of the Association of traveling art exhibitions – many years, the artist will send his work at annual exhibitions of the Partnership in Russia. Last years of his life, the artist Aleksei Alekseevich Kharlamov spent in oblivion, loneliness and poverty. He died in the spring of 1925 in Paris and was buried in the cemetery Пер-Лашез.
