Since 1901 Korovin was teacher at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture, where once he took his first steps in painting. His teachers were Vasily Polenov and Alexei Savrasov. Korovin was one of the first Russian artists presented the study as an independent work — prior to that, the sketches were only a preparatory step while working on a painting. He wrote in the technique characteristic of sketchy sketches: in broad strokes, paying more attention to color and overall atmosphere of the composition, not the details.

"Чувствовать the beauty of paint, light — that"s what art is expressed@the semicolon a bit, but truthfully right to take, to enjoy freely; relations of tones. Tone, tone, truthful and sober — they content", — were noted by Konstantin Korovin.

In 1887, the artist visited Paris and became acquainted with the paintings of the Impressionists — them are found to be close to him "И Impressionists... — have I found all the thing that was so abused me at home, in Moscow". In August 1894 Konstantin Korovin went to the creative trip to the North seas. He traveled with the artist Valentin Serov, whom were friends a long time. The voyage was organized by the businessman Savva Mamontov: he planned the construction of a railroad from Yaroslavl to the White sea coast and wanted to draw attention to the undeveloped edge. Artists visited Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, visited Norway and Sweden.

the Harsh cold Russian North Konstantin Korovin struck a monochrome inks and a sophisticated color nuances. On warm days, to write the sea had the evening and at night: in the afternoon prevented the annoying insects, and in autumn there was another problem — cold. The wind was freezing and the paint, and hands, so finding pictorial solutions and implement them on the canvas there.

while traveling Konstantin Korovin created a few marine sketches:" Ловля fish in the Murmansk sea"," На the North"," Пристань at stations along the Murman"," Мурманский shore". For Northern landscapes, the artist often used the grey color, its delicate pearly shades.

During the trip, the artist visited the Islands of Novaya Zemlya archipelago between the Barents and Kara seas. Korovin remembered about this place: "Над fog are masses of mountains, sharp bands exactly lying snow. <...> On the shores of the pathetic Lacoste shot down from the dark logs with small Windows. From cabin to cabin stretched rope: it is to walk in the wind. <…> dark Circle, red-бурые mountain: the night the sun illuminates them. There is an ineffable-таинственное in this polar свете".

Northern Nature and people, their way of life fascinated the artist, he was particularly struck by the Northern lights. He said Valentin Serov: "Какой beautiful land, the wild North! And no there is no anger from the people. And what a life, think, and what a beauty!.. Tosh, I"d like to stay here навсегда".

After the Russian North, the artists traveled to the Scandinavian countries. In a way, they visited the town of Hammerfest, at the time one of the most northerly in the world. Upon returning from the trip, Korovin created the picture" Геммерфест. Northern lights" (1894-1895).

In the dark sky lights up mother of pearl stripe of the Northern lights illuminating the water with fishing boats. The reflections of light shimmer, twinkle. Purplish, bluish, pearl-серые, pink, they tremble on the water, echoing the reflections of the lights that lit in the distance, barely noticeable slide on the walls of the houses, surrounding the channel, and fade in the shadows where gathering smoky shades that convey the damp foggy air, which seemed to muslin wraps items. Under the rays of the Aurora Borealis a simple fishing town turns into an extraordinary magical vision.
Mikhail Kiselev, the art critic

Journey lasted two months, from a trip Korovin brought more than thirty paintings and sketches. All paintings included in a single North loop, and later, Korovin used them for the design of pavilion at all-Russia exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod. Pavilion" Крайний North" was a wooden log house, which housed a landscape mural, panoramas, and dioramas.

the exhibition Korovin put the skins of bears, clothes, coast-dwellers, the jaws of the whale, and even bundles of dried fish: "Стараюсь to make the pavilion the impression, the feeling I experienced there, on the North. <...> "d like to pass that particular smell of the ocean and cliffs. From barrels to remove the moss, which I had brought with me and put it under the floor of the pavilion. Samoyed Basil, which I also brought, already drunk, he also tries; changes the water in a galvanized box, which sits with us dear seal, brought from the Arctic ocean and nicknamed Васькой".

In 1900, the artist participated in the design of the Russian pavilion at the International exhibition in Paris, where he again worked on the mural. Art Raisa Vlasov wrote: "Как if echoing the long rhythms of the vast Northern plains, the endless narrow frieze stretched on the walls and the scenery-панно..." Пристань at stations along the Murman", wooden pier with the barrels, a huge winch on it, a roomy, stable fishing boats crowding around; in panels" У encampments vehicle" before our eyes grows a whole forest of masts neatly listed with tackle, ray with their sails, black tarred ropes". Talent found universal acceptance — for the design of the pavilion Konstantin Korovin received two silver and two gold medals and became a knight of the Legion of honor.
