Vasilyev, Fyodor Alexandrovich (1850-1873)

Russian painter, landscape painter Fyodor Alexandrovich Vasilyev was born on 10 Feb 1850 in Petersburg, Pochtamtskaya the family of a minor official. Twelve-year-old child Fyodor was given for the service of the General post office. From her early years addicted to drawing, future artist gave all free at the post office time to his hobby. The artist"s childhood was marred by not only poverty, but also the tragic fate of his father, after whose death in 1865, Vasilyev became the pillar of the family — on the shoulders 15-летнего young men fell the responsibility of daily bread.

Barges”, “Volga lagoons”, “Winter landscape”, “Approaching storm”, “Before the storm”, etc. Here, the artist strove to picture the generality of landscape image, tonal unity of colors, lyrical experience of nature.

Back in St. Petersburg Vasiliev created one of his main works — “Thaw”, which was presented in early spring 1871 in the competition in Society for the encouragement of artists, and was awarded the first prize. This painting carried a high social content, it"s all imbued with melancholy and sadness, inspired by the bitter reflections of the artist about life in a Russian village.
