Basil Ede (Basil Ede) is an English painter, was born 12.02.1931 year, in the County of Surrey, England.

As a schoolboy growing up during the Second world war, he filled his notebooks with sketches of military aircraft.

He was educated in the John School, Leatherhead. He later attended the art School of Kingston in Surrey.

In 1949, ed was drafted into compulsory military service in the British army, initially with the training unit of the Royal artillery, and then after a period in the Cadet school officers Mons, he became a licensed officer in RASR.

After leaving the army in 1951, Ede joined the merchant Navy fleet taking on the role of the pursuer aboard the Orient Line ship Empire Orwell. The established route of the vessel was between Southampton and Japan, via Suez, Columbo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Busan.

Task in this vessel was the transportation of British troops and equipment in Korea.

Ede was under the impression from Asian art and the whole of the Far East in General. This undoubtedly influenced his later work.

After Ede served and remained on the land, he began to spend all his free time drawing birds.

In 1958 his paintings were exhibited in London at the Tryon gallery.

1964 he was able to devote all his time to ornithological painting. In the same year was his first American show at the National collection of the Smithsonian Institute of fine arts.

In 1965, Ede"s first book" Птицы towns and villages" was published" Country Life Books". This book contains 36 works by the artist. The publication contains a Foreword written by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and text by ornithologist WD Campbell, Chartru Books reissued in 2004.

In 1971 Ede-order-Walter Annenberg made a series of Eastern Pennsylvanian birds.

In 1971, a chance encounter with another American collector, Jack Warner, led to the beginning of the series" The Wild Birds of America".

This was a very ambitious project. According to the plans of organizers of the Ede was to draw 650 wild birds living in North America. Birds should be depicted the same size as in life and display the character and habits of each bird.

the Project was terminated in 1989, after Ede suffered a serious illness.

In 1991 a book" Дикие birds of America @- the art of Basil Ede" was published by Harry N. Abrams, which was represented by 103 color reproductions from the" Wild Birds of America", and also reproductions from field notes and sketches ed.

After a severe stroke in 1989, Ede was left with a paralyzed right hand, but despite this, he continued to paint, only to have his left hand.
