Raffaello Sorbi Italian painter-жанрист. Studied at the Academy of fine arts in Florence under the guidance of the historical painter and portraitist Antonio Ciseri. At the age of seventeen, in 1861, Sorbi won the competition for the Florence Triennale, presenting the historical picture" Корсо Donati wounded Catalans in San-Сальви in Florence". Two years later, the young artist won the Rome prize in painting" Савонарола explaining the Bible to my friends" (Savonarola Il che spiega la Bibbia ad alcuni amici). The artist specialized in historical painting, depicting scenes from medieval history, eighteenth-century Imperial Rome.
However, Sorbi often heard criticism in his address. The famous painter Signorini said about the paintings of the young artist:" Слишком arrogant!". Maybe for this reason, Sorbi soon abandoned historical subjects, replacing them with romantic genre paintings of the XVIII century.
Promotion paintings on the international market contributed to the acquaintance with the French art dealer eugène Gopalam, which in 1872 the artist signed an exclusive agreement for a period of seven years, receiving as a fee of 1,000 francs per month. In addition, Sorbi collaborated with German art-дилерами Heinemann and Schulte, as well as with the Englishman Thoth.
