Former U.S. secretaries of state George Schultz and Condoleezza Rice presented a gift to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Soviet poster "From the darkness - to light, from sadness - to the delight of" 1921.
"Mr. President, thank you for your treatment and for your excellent answers to questions. We have long thought, an unusual present for you. We wanted to find something that will demonstrate the depth of the interest to your country at Stanford "- Schultz said after Medvedev's speech at the famous university.
He said that in the archives at Stanford University have found the poster "from the darkness - to light, from sadness - to the delight of" being widely circulated in Russia in 1921. "And we found a copy of this poster", - said Schultz, noting that the optimistic words on the poster is relevant at all times.
President of Russia, thanked him for the gift and noted that on the poster there is one phrase. "There is one more thing that is not the state secretary said Schultz. It is written in small letters on top. This is the inscription "Workers of all countries, unite!" I'm not a fan of this slogan, so I support what the big letters written, "- laughing," he said.
Medvedev handed Stanford a picture with a view of St. Petersburg.
"For many of those present in this room, it's hometown. I love him very much, hope you like it too "- he said.
