I saw and was delighted that and I want to share with you. In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting, talented and significant artists of our time.

Italian skulptor and painter, one of the main representatives of the movement Transavantgarde, created in 1980 by designer Achille Bonito Oliva and representing the vanguard of the alternative 1970. Transavantgarde calls for a return to painting.

In 16 years at the Venice Biennale, he became acquainted with the works of Claes Oldenburg and Jim Dine, who made a tremendous impression on him. His first independent works date back to 1970, he first engaged in abstract painting. In his early works he used a photograph, they markedly silnoe influence of conceptual art. Criticism of their Streten very well, but the artist himself considered them unsatisfactory.

Gradually, his works become more figurative: he belongs more to syncretism: along with the inspiration that he draws on the works of artists of European avant-garde 1910-20 gg., He willingly turns to mythological and esoteric traditions, depicts a strange beast, a hybrid creature, emaciated body ... Recurrence of his subjects - skeletons, skulls, as if the artist was playing with death, mocked her.

Especially important for him was the character of Icarus. Aesthetics Transavantgarde fully consistent with his quest - this movement in the strongest terms were isolated from the dematerialization, abstraction and anonymity of conceptual art, calling for a return to the subject of painting.
  1976 in Brescia, he had his first personal exhibiton. In 1978 he went to New York, where in 1979 it was organized in the exhibition galleries, Marian Goodman and Annino Nosei.

In 1980, Achille Bonito Oliva invited him to set up their section "Aperto 80". He first participated in the Venice Biennale together with Sandro Kia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Kuchchi and Nicola De Maria, Italian artists, members of the movement Transavantgarde. After this exhibition, the movement gained international fame, is now the exhibition followed one after another. For example, in 1980 their works were exhibited in the Kunsthalle Basel in 1981 at the London Academy of Art had an exhibition entitled "New Spirit of Painting", in 1982 an exhibition "Avant-garde - Transavantgarde" in Rome.
