Rothko - 50 million
Warhol - 33 million Freud - 34 million Bacon - 28 million Gerhard, Style - 14 million Kooning - 12 million Quite still many lots left for 6-8 million Now all the results can be viewed here http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/s...0 & pg = 2. We must admit that modern art is valued has no less and sometimes more than the art of the early twentieth century. Khrenova trend however. |

trend is bad from the point of view, that the conceptual art of the early twentieth century is very different from the conceptual contemporary art, most of whom live and are sold exclusively through the PR, rather than any artistic features. That is a very controversial with an understanding of art as such modern works are valued and received as the work of Monet, Modigliani, Chagall, etc.

Well, it's a matter of taste. I, for one, do not quite understand that this works in the same Modigliani. But Freud, I believe, an important artist, and a portrait of Sue Tilley - also important. Yes, many of Conceptual and so terrible. but not all.

JM-G, but what from your point of view manifests the importance and achievements of Freud, and a portrait of Sue Tilley in particular?

I like that Freud depicts human figures "without embellishment. According to the same Sue Tilley, he is "more than anything else loves the flesh. I think that in this era, when people are afraid of his own body, his art is rather important. It is - "in the face".

Modigliani - master of the psychological portrait, perhaps of his portraits and do not provide the "flesh" as Freud, but he has his own style - elongated face, black eyes without pupils, without glare. The main thing - he can convey the nature of man. I think the portrait of Jean Cocteau, Modigliani painted him with one eye closed, the question of Cocteau's "why" Modi said, "because you have one eye looking at the world around us and the other for himself." That's what I, for example, like Modigliani))

Especially if you know that the majority of ills suffered and died at 40 years or something. And the next day jumped from the window of his pregnant wife.
