"Probably I would have never occurred to me to illustrate the stories about Sherlock Holmes, if not the artist Alexander Shaburov, a figure widely known in the world of domestic "contemporary art". Unexpectedly it was found that Shaburov is a major specialist in the field of "holmsveden". He was going to publish something like a detailed encyclopedia dedicated to the famous detective, and invited a number of artists to participate in this project. I was asked to make ten pictures to any stories about Holmes on my choice.
I must say that illustrate the stories of Sherlock Holmes - a pleasure. Everyone who in childhood was holding a yellow book Conan Doyle from the "Library of adventure, remember detailed black-and-white pictures taken under a certain influence of the classic illustrations by Eugene Paje, and furnished with a breathtaking signatures of type "Over Hugo was vile monster...".
A careful reading of the texts of Arthur Conan Doyle revealed that almost on every page of stories about Sherlock Holmes can be a couple of juicy quotes: "he was a man of strong will", "Poor Colonel was dead, "Then I grabbed the poker from the fireplace. The fight was honest", "the Light was in the open safe..." and so on. Like brisk headlines. So in the plots was not lacking.
I always loved to cut out of colored paper images with different labels. So in the case of Holmes, this technique came in the best way possible. Now, thanks to the print Studio "B&f", I had the opportunity to make these illustrations to the stories about Sherlock Holmes and even in the screen printing technique". O. Florensky
