Born in 1928 on a farm Fine well Romny district of Sumy region. In 1949 he graduated from the Rostov art school named after M. B. Grekov. From 1949 to 1953 he studied at the Moscow state art Institute named C. I. Surikov. In 1957 he graduated from the Kharkov art Institute. Since 1948 the participant of art exhibitions. In the Studio of military artists name M. B. Grekov since 1958. Since 1978 senior military artist Studio of military artists name M. B. Grekov. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR since 1964. In 1968 he was awarded the honorary title "Honored artist of the RSFSR".In 1980 - the honorary title "people's artist of the RSFSR, in 1982 - the honorary title "Honored worker of arts of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR. In 1968, for participation in the reconstruction of the panorama F. Roubaud "Borodino battle" (1967) was awarded a gold medal of a name of M. B. Grekov. In 1972 was awarded the prize named Vita Nejedlý (Czechoslovakia) for the series of paintings "the Slovak national uprising". In 1975 was awarded the diploma of the Academy of arts of the USSR for the cycle of paintings "Heroic Marines". In 1976 he was awarded the gold medal of the USSR Academy of arts. In 1979 was awarded the State prize of the Ukrainian SSR name T. G. Shevchenko for the diorama "Battle for the Dnieper (the Crossing of the Dnieper river near the village of Army in 1943)" (1975). In 1982 he was awarded the Honorary medal of the Soviet peace Fund.
