Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero was born in Medellin. His father worked as a commercial agent, and his mother made jewelry. After the death of his father's upbringing Botero and his two brothers took up his uncle, a big fan of bullfighting, which had determined him to school tavromahii. But poor little Fernando was terribly afraid of bulls, he quickly withdrew from the school and decided to devote himself to painting.
In 1948-49. his drawings were published in the literary weekly "El Colombino." In 1951-1955, after receiving a secondary education, he settled in Madrid, then traveled to Florence, where he studied the art of old masters - Titian, Goya, Tintoretto, Velasquez). Returning to Latin America, he settled in Mexico City. Murals Rivera and Orozco have had a great impression. In 1960 Botero moved to New York and lived there for 13 years. However, he did not participate in the American art movements of the time. remaining true to the traditional art of Colombia. In 1961, the Museum of Modern Art in New York bought a painting called "Mona Lisa", which Botero wrote in 12 years. |
