The statue was made by eugène Louis Lesquin in 1851 to the Luxembourg gardens, where to this day and currently one of the castings is stored in the Museum of fine arts in Bordeaux in 1855.

While studying in Italy Lesquin had the opportunity to examine and copy examples of ancient sculptures that had a significant influence on his work. Creating your "Faun" Lesquin, no doubt, was inspired by the sculpture "Dancing Faun", found during excavations in Pompeii in 1830. However, the explicit reference to this ancient pattern, model Lekena not devoid of originality, for the sculptor and received a medal of the first class at the salon of 1851. The sculptor was perfectly able to convey the wild character - kind, merciful God of the mountains, meadows, fields, caves, stud, bestows fertility of the fields, animals and people. No part of the drawn figure does not remain stationary, euphoria, unbridled joy and energy is transmitted in every muscle, in the pose and the thick curls falling over his forehead. This whole way of unbridled joy, a hymn to nature and earthly pleasures.

Eugène-Louis Lesquin (Eugène Louis Lequesne) (1815 - 1887, Paris) was a French sculptor. In 1841 he began training at the National school of fine arts in Studio Jean-Jacques Prade. In 1844 he went to Italy, where until 1849 he studied at the French Academy in Rome, together with Jean-Louis Charles Garnier. In 1855 he was awarded the Grand prize for sculpture at the world exhibition and received the Legion of Honor, alumina highest distinction, honor and recognition of special merits in France.
E.-L. Lesquin was involved in many architectural projects, sculptures on the facades of many of the public buildings of Paris belongs to his hand.
