The same opinion ... very fine and talented artist , I hope that he would find a decent assessment .. By the way I heard that preparing an exhibition of his works in Monaco ... undoubtedly undervalued by the market. I'm sure that will increase in value.

Workshops were opened October 10, 1918 on the basis of the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (VHU) and placed in the buildings of the Academy of Arts. In addition, these are already "Parisians" heartily welcomed "newbies", shared with them their poor housing in a hotel room, studio or commune, the most famous of which was the Beehive. This was a known place, where they lived at the time by many famous artists, written a lot, but you can write about a few more words. >

" Each day at noon , - Shapiro continues, - mouse appeared on the stairs of my attic. I treated them with bread crumbs, and they are, after all ate, looking at me with his little glow eyes, returned to his burrow. These mice brightened my loneliness ".

По умолчанию Jacques Chapiro (continued)

So, Shapiro, who became France Jacques, was active and exhibited. His work has appeared in numerous galleries, including the famous Galleria Bonaparte. Since 1926, the artist exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Tuileries, Salon des Independants, and the Soviet trade mission in the club.

Met in Paris with Sergei Diaghilev, Shapiro collaborated with his ballet company "Diaghilev's Russian Ballet" to the death of Diaghilev in 1929.
In 1928, he created the scenery for "Bolero" by Ravel in the Opera Garnier and the costumes for the Russian dancer Ida Rubinshtayn.
Shapiro held solo exhibitions in galleries Kleinman (1930) and Bonaparte (1936). Since 1935, he has participated in exhibitions of the Salon Sverhnezavisimyh (was and is).

In 1937, in Paris, on the initiative of artists and Aronson Vayssberga Association was founded by Jewish artists, numbering not less than two hundred members. In the work of the Association took part and Shapiro. Many artists of this organization its work is based on the use of the rich Jewish tradition. Among the most famous artists of this trend were, no doubt, Marc Chagall (July 6, 1887 - March 28, 1985) and Emmanuel Mane-Katz (1894-1962). A series of paintings of Jacques Shapiro Jewish historians also believe charming.

They also note that some works of Jewish immigrants traced proximity, such as watercolors Shapiro images like Chagall and Soutine techniques and topics Volovik Dobrinsky similar topics. This is understandable - artists pull together a common origin and culture.

It seemed to Shapiro and other representatives of the "School of Paris" is given the "green light" in the works, but in the 1930s, the conditions of existence of foreign artists in France were difficult.
In his book "Jewish Artists in Paris between 1906 and 1945.", Released today in France, says: "After 1929, the country began to reign economic crisis. U.S. customers rarely see, galleries were closed, many French collectors stopped buying art. Unfavorable economic climate spurred xenophobia and anti-Semitism. " When in Europe, the Second World War in France antisemizm increased.
In 1939, Shapiro because of his Jewish background became a refugee, he found refuge in the town of Serres in the Hautes-Alpes region (in south-eastern France).

From 1942 until the liberation of France, he lived in Karprentrase, then traveled to Italy, and then returned to Paris with his new wife Vadiey Zadeh and opened his studio on the Boulevard incensed.

Back in the capital, Shapiro performed lithography Knuth to the book "Selected Poems" and began writing a book of memoirs about life in the artists' colony "Beehive." This book was published in 1960. Critics wrote that the book is the first complete story of the "Hive", filled with anecdotal stories and interesting details. "Two hundred pages of text read like a fascinating novel" - Newspapers.

In 1946 and 1949, held his first solo exhibition in Paris. In 1950, Shapiro first exhibited in England in the Redfern Gallery in London. In addition, he has participated in many exhibitions of Russian art, including the exhibition "Russian artists School of Paris" (1961).

Biographer "Beehive" a Russian Jew who became a Frenchman, Jacques Shapiro has created a subtle, unique world of bright colors and unusual shapes.
The artist died in Paris in 1972 at age 75.

Shapiro paintings are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of the Jeu de Paume in Paris, the Art Institute in Chicago and the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin in Moscow, as well as in numerous private collections.

In the 1960s the "Beehive" re-entered the life of Jacques Shapiro.
In 1951 and then again in 1967, the French press reported about the possible demolition of all the studios of artists colony "Beehive", located in the passage of Danzig, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris.

The first time passions subsided under pressure on the part of tenants, but after fifteen years, citing dilapidated buildings, despite compelling evidence of the active work of the artist, the government officially announced the demolition of the colony "Beehive." Notice of each tenant receives written, and this bombshell.

Shapiro, one of the first to this decision. With Marc Chagall and Raymond Konya, he organized the Committee, which was to promote the conservation areas and to fight for the abolition of the demolition.

Committee supported by many famous artists - Orchestra Gisela Halimi, Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, Robert Merle, Claude Roy and many others. All wondered - Is Historic, created in 1902 by Alfred Boucher, to help artists, 70 years later disappear without a trace? The Committee will meet all 43 tenants, advising them to return to their shops, and assured them that the fate of the "Beehive" will be resolved in a positive way.

With the head of the Committee of the Creative Union of Artists Bernard Antonis gos.chinovnika got from Andre Malraux, who according to information was also an adventurer, a decision to cancel the demolition permit and block new construction.
In addition, thanks to the work of the Committee, the people "Beehive" received financial support from Renee and Genevieve Seydoux, and the "Beehive" klassifizirovan and was entered in the register of historical monuments.
It remains to add that in 1973, after a fire in 1970, 23 studios were renovated and even water-supply system (!), And in 2009, the Foundation "Heritage" included "Beehive" in the plan of the capital reconstruction City of Paris. As written press, "Beehive" is waiting for the second youth to delight new generations of artists.

По умолчанию Jacques Chapiro and salvation "Hive"
