Neo-expressionism

This style of painting, who was born in the late 1970's and has held a dominant position in the art world until the mid 1980's. Linked with the American lyrical abstraction, it has developed in Europe as a reaction to minimalism and conceptualism 1970.

Neo-expressionists returned to the image of recognizable objects. They are characterized by a sharp emotional style and use of bright color palette.

In France, this area is often referred to as free figurations (Figuration libre), in Germany - neo-Fauve, in Italy - trans-avant-garde, but USA - bad painting (Bad painting).
