Anatoly I. Vasiliev was born March 18, 1917 in St. Petersburg in a working family. In 1934-1938 he engaged in the Leningrad Art Teachers College in C. Butler, S. Chugunov H. Levitsky, M. Aslamazyan. In 1938 was passed in the first year painting department of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the All-Russian Academy of Arts. Studied with Bernstein, V. Belkin, P. Naumov, D. Kiplika.

Taught by Michael Bernstein, Nicholas Rutkowski, Igor Grabar. In 1950 he graduated LIZHSA Repin the studio Victor Oreshnikova to the rank of an artist painting. Diploma work - painting "Lomonosov - the father of Russian science" (located in the Museum of the Moscow State University). In the same year he became a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists on the painting section.

After completing his studies in administrative and teaching work at the institute. He worked as provost and acting rector LIZHSA. In 1951-1953 worked in the creative workshop BV Johanson. Also worked as an assistant at the Department of graphics. The first part in the exhibition refers to 1937. Since 1950 Anatoly Vasilyev constantly participated in exhibitions, exhibiting their works together with the works of the leading visual artists of Leningrad. He painted portraits, genre scenes, thematic and historical compositions, landscapes, sketches from nature. Personal (posthumous) exhibition in St. Petersburg in 1995.
