Retrospective Dmitry Baltermantsa

Yesterday opened a retrospective exhibition of Dmitry Baltermantsa in Mamma (Multimedia Art Museum). The exhibition is timed to the 100th anniversary of the photographer.
More than 200 photographs and covers the period from 1940s to 1980s. Many military imagery: the famous shots of "Attack", "Mountain", which are often sold at various auctions. But there is also footage of everyday life, as well as a series of images of Soviet leaders.
Career Baltermantsa there was quite a success: he worked in the "Spark", during the war - in the newspaper "Izvestia" (though in 1943 was in error editor penal battalion, in 1944 he worked in the newspaper "The defeat of the enemy", because of this case after the war, could not find a job), but nevertheless his work has been exhibited and published, both domestically and abroad.

Dmitri Baltermants

1912, May 13 - born in Warsaw, Poland.
1915 - after his parents' divorce and new marriage, the mother's family moved to Moscow.
After school, forced to help the family, works as an assistant baker, an assistant architect, a projectionist, a typesetter in the printing of the newspaper "Izvestia".
1935 - 1939 - a student of Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University, begins to look for jobs photographer in various newspapers and magazines.

1939 - Red Army officer, teaches mathematics at the Military Academy in Moscow, as a freelance correspondent for "Izvestia" removes the accession of the Western Ukraine and Western Belorussia by the Soviet Union.
1940 - joined the staff of the newspaper "Izvestia".
1941 - 1943 - front-line photographer of the newspaper "Izvestia", removes the defense of Moscow, military actions in the Crimea and Stalingrad. Due to an error editor incorrectly affixed the signature on a photograph, Baltermants gets in a penal battalion, seriously wounded.
1944 - 1945 - front army newspaper photographer for "The defeat of the enemy"; takes military action in Poland and Germany.
1945 - 1990 - works in the magazine "Spark", the organ of the CPSU Central Committee - the main color illustrated magazine of the Soviet era, which came out in the millions. Political and economic history of the country from Stalin to Yeltsin presented in the magazine in photos Baltermantsa whose name is known in virtually every Soviet family.
1960 - 1990 - numerous solo exhibitions in the USSR and other countries around the world: France, Italy, Great Britain, Hungary, Finland, USA, etc.
from 1965 - a member of the editorial board of "Spark", headed by fotootdel. Work in the journal are combined with social activities:
1970 - 1990 - President fotosektsii Union Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries;
1985 - 1987 - Jury member of World Press Photo.
1990, June - has died in Moscow.
