Yuri Gorbachev - one of the most exciting and original artists, who left for America from the former Soviet Union. During the 40-year period of creative activity, the artist has managed to climb to the top of the modern art world. Artist Gorbachev created the unique technique of painting on canvas, using gold, bronze, special varnishes and enamels, eliminating entirely from a palette of black.

His works are found in more than 20 prestigious museum collections, including the Louvre, the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), the Kremlin, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of the United Nations (New York), the National Museum of Ukraine (Kiev), as well as in private collections of many famous people in the world, including former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Marcello Mastroianni, Mick Jagger, Antonio Banderas, Brooke Shields, Alla Pugacheva, and many others. The collection of the White House also has a picture of the artist as Yuri Gorbachev was twice invited to the White House for the inauguration ceremony, including the most important for the culture of U.S. persons, and was personally presented to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In 1994, Yuri Gorbachev, working with the brand «STOLICHNAYA». The artist has repeatedly illustrated printed promotional materials brand, constantly appearing in major journals of the world, such as TIME, ELLE, VOGUE, American Photo, and others. Since the autumn of 2010 premium vodka «STOLICHNAYA» out with a new label, "Four Elements" and the name of the author.

The exhibition consists of 56 works created by the artist over the past 20 years. It will be the main theme of the author: evolution, mythology, as well as landscapes, still lifes and paintings. The artist Yuri Gorbachev became the first celebrity guest to Estonia in the framework of the project "Odessa is going to Tallinn." In Odessa, he lived for 20 years of his life, but now, with his art, belongs to the whole world.

You have a few days in Tallinn, even got the local phone number. Probably already were filled with the spirit of our capital. Tell me, if it leads to creativity? All have color mostly gray, but your work exceptionally bright.

I will not say that my grandfather from Narva. Today I am - a world artist with Russian, Ukrainian and Estonian roots, and, of course, American. And my favorite New York City, I love his energy, style, emotion, pace.

Tallinn - the exact opposite, it's very touching city, modest, restrained, angular. If New York can irritate your volume, then Tallinn attracts a calm and even sexuality.

Contemporary Art in Estonia - not mine, but his attempts, which I then saw, clean and beautiful. And every second I wanted to do this myself, but I'm not used to working quickly, I thoroughly go over the writing of his works, is that the picture will begin in 1991 and finished only now. Just so there nothing written.

The exhibition of your work was in Tallinn a couple of years ago, but it is so representative and not looked impressive as the one that you brought today. And this is all within, as you call it, a museum tour. What is this tour?

My work is constantly travel the world's museums. The exhibition in Tallinn, believe me, I was prepared as carefully as if preparing for an exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery and Pushkin Museum, that I might be late this year - I have not picked a place.

After working in Tallinn will go to Odessa and then to Bulgaria. But because they are constantly sold on the road, the number of pictures all the time.

You are invited to submit in Tallinn Odessa first in a series of famous Odessa. But can you, a resident of Manhattan, now called Odessa?

You can. I love all the cities in which he lived. I immediately distinguish odessite from any other man in America, with all the mixing of cultures, a man from Odessa shows at once. Odessa citizens are able to communicate, and it is this property in particular has helped me to settle in America.

Do you, as a former ceramics, developed its own unique technique of painting on a canvas when used gold, bronze and lacquer. Tell me whether there were followers? Or plagiarists?

All artists who enter the art world, have the most important - recognizability, is the main feature of significance. My work seems to me impossible to forge.

A sculpture do you do?

Yes, but smaller, ceramics beats, it is difficult to transport. But my paintings are no less voluminous than that of sculpture, both technically and emotionally. Look closely, they should be considered closely.

Why have you abandoned the black?

I do not think the black color and tone of the limit, any color can be reduced to black, but pure black in the picture may look like dirt. Black is not acceptable in the furniture, decorations, clothes only when a clear face and hands, nothing distracts from the man himself. Everyone says that my works are bright, but I now think that not enough!

Your first shopper of the stars, it seems, was Latoya Jackson. You well remember that moment?

But the first was Mikhail Baryshnikov. He came to the exhibition of ceramics and asked to do something like this in the form of painting. And Latoya - a miracle, I love it. She came to me at a party, asked for an autograph, about me in Time magazine wrote, we talked a lot, and she asked if she could buy.

Yesterday in Tallinn bought several works, to be honest, I was in Estonia specially reduced prices so that they could afford. And my last buyer was among the celebrities Mick Jagger, he already has some of my work.

I was in America collecting, the Barbra Streisand has seven of my work. But I was surprised when he learned that a young couple from Washington bought my "Two Horses" as much in credit!

Do you have a philosophy and education. There is a narrow-minded view that philosophical education - one of the most useless and maloprimenimyh in real life. How much did it help you to emerge as an artist and a person?

Time - the most basic category of time is a start, they measure, plead with him. I once worked in journalism in the early 1970s, became interested in existentialism, books, which just did not have access, and Philosophy Department made it possible to use primary sources.

So while I acted like I was told the heart, then come to understand that I have a mission to live in another culture, to do it.

Your name has long been written on the label of vodka «Stolichnaya», and you still call Mr. Tables. How would you feel about vodka? The better the vodka snack?

Herring and salmon. Pickles, eggs and, of course, bacon!

It seems that today's artists are doing, mostly to themselves and to speak out themselves liked it. But you people do not say. How do you feel about contemporary art? Are you following the fact that your colleagues are doing?

I look and watch. Some buy, collect, we have in New York, many interesting avant-garde. But I should like art, so I purchased it myself.

In your opinion, share art group "War" and «Pussy Riot» relate to art?

Yes, it's painful. There is much controversy about the performances. I think this art is interesting and moves social life. But where to move these artists, I was not clear.

I'm more of a substantive art, that you can touch, hang, place, art is more likely to stay in world history than the performances, which are very short lived.

 I do not think I have the right to announce sales price . Prices were slightly lower than at an exhibition in St. Petersburg last year ( I was not there , this is according to the artist ).
Nine works sold were small ( 16h21 and 21h26 ) and a pair of 28x36 in the area . The rest of the larger up to a meter and a little more . Religious of anyone not interested. Several papers are forbidden to sell an artist ( he has his own plans for them in Odessa)
