"I am". Odessa artists in self-portraits

October 7 at the Odessa Museum of Western and Oriental art (street, Pushkinskaya 9) an exhibition of self-portraits of artists in Odessa, "I am" from the collection of Alexander Dmitrenko.

The viewer's attention is a collection of self-portraits of artists in Odessa, collected by passion, curiosity and interest of collectors, an honorary member of the Odessa regional organization NSHU Alexander Dmitrenko. About two years ago for the sake of familiarity with the artists and their works, Alexander began to collect self-portraits, not knowing that this hobby since his capture and grow in scale, in fact, unique for a city project.

In this collection of self-portraits 317, 293 made by the authors in different styles and directions, different techniques and materials. Close to traditional painting and graphics can be seen self-portrait YD Barzashvili created wood carvings, terracotta bust by sculptor A. Knyazika, plaster bust AP Tokarev, bas NS Khudoley, painting on porcelain N. L. Marinenko and PE Shtivelman, self-portrait in the form of dolls, NV Zagora.

Collector wanted to show the slice of artistic life in Odessa this original genre, as a self-portrait, and artists belonging to Odessa was not confined to the place of birth or education, long-term stay in the city or membership in the Odessa regional organization of the Union of Artists, and later Ukraine. The main criterion for selection of works in the collection - a "self-portrait" and a link to our city.

The collection features the works of authors, consisting of (A. Gavdzinsky, VA Kucher-Kutsan) and does not consist (GP Vostrov, SM Szczepanski) in the Union of artists, union members marine painters (CB Zaritsky, A. Mirzoev) and advertising (VA Redin, D. Karzhavin), theater artists (MV Kordonskii, NM Vylkun), film (JK Bogatyrenko, Y. P. Gorobets) and television (VV Rastorguev, LI Sokolov), representatives from the underground (DE Nuzhin, V. Zabolotny) and contemporary art (OO Lannik, AA Babchinsky ), architects (A. Eremenko, EP Fersanov), teachers of art institutions of the city (LD Vandenko, EP Kuchinskaya), sculptors (AP Tokarev, EN Lelechenko). Such a variety of artists and belonging to different currents and fields is just one of the main objectives of the project.

Especially interesting for Alexander Dmitrenko was search and acquisition of self-portraits of artists in Odessa, immigrated at different times and for different reasons. The search was fascinating in itself: how it was interesting to find an artist abroad, who left 20 years ago, know that there is a self-portrait of the artist, write his biography, often terminated at the date of departure, to find a picture. Welcome back to Odessa, a self-portrait artists, immigrants and returning the memory of their authors, are often neglected. This EB Ladyzhenskii, LV Dulfan, M. Sidorova, LE Kaushansky, L. Gorban, IL Gorban, I. Kligman, VP Naumets, B . Strelnikov L., W. Yu Shtivelberg, PE Shtivelman. Returned to Odessa works from Russia, Germany, Israel, the United States.

The collection spans almost a hundred years, beginning with the figure Kostandi K., M. woodcuts and painting self-portraits Beetle B. Krihatskogo created in the early 20s of last century self-portraits and ending with 2011.

The project is "self-portrait of Odessa" can be called a rather artistic and documentary, because for the compilation of biographies of artists collector had to work in many archives, especially the archive of the company NSHU, OGHU archive them. Grekov and Odessa State Academy of Architecture and Building, Department of Art, Odessa National Scientific Library. Maxim Gorky, the personal archives of artists' families, recorded recollections of his contemporaries or successors. Many biographies compiled the first time (AY Asaba, N. Y. Novikov, MV Kordonskii and others), many changes in the already published data about the artists. Thus, we establish the exact place and date of birth AY Asaba. Managed to figure out the spelling of names of such artists as Peter S. Kohn, and Mendel Lischuk Vigdorov-Leibovich Kordonskii. This work resulted in publication of a 300-page book-album "Self-portraits of artists in Odessa," published an edition of 500 copies.

With the exhibition, "I am" and the publication of the album "Self-portraits of artists in Odessa," a project does not end there ... The interest is not fading, so that new discoveries are waiting!
