Dear friends! Fund Marjani gallery and figs invites to the lecture
"Arabic calligraphy in the service of the Russian empire in the Caucasus"
September 8, 2011 (Thursday) 19-00
Students will become familiar with letters, documents and texts from the spiral of Daghestan 1860 - 1927 gg. Arabic and other documents from the North Caucasus before the revolution. Lecturer will speak about the results of their study in public and private archives in the past 20 years. The focus of the lecture is devoted to the analysis of these Oriental sources, their themes and approaches to them.
Lecturer Bobrovnikov Vladimir O. senior researcher, head of the Caucasus Institute for Oriental Studies, director of the scientific program of the Fund Marjani, candidate of historical sciences.
Vladimir O. Bobrovnikov - Oriental-Arabic scholar with extensive experience in the field and archival work in the North Caucasus. His research interests include the history and ethnology of Muslim communities under Russian and Soviet reforms, comparative study of the Muslim suburbs of colonial empires (France and Russia) XIX - XX centuries. Total number of scientific publications about 300. VA Bobrovnikov taught at the Russian State Humanitarian University, IAAS MSU, Stanford University, is currently engaged in courses at the Institute of Oriental Studies and the Graduate School of Economics.
