The painting "Venus and Mars" (C. 1485, London, national gallery) has an elongated horizontal proportions, hence the assumption that the picture was painted by Botticelli for the decoration of the side wall of the wedding chest, Cassone.
In accordance with a humanistic worldview, from the Union of Venus and Mars (love fight) Harmony is born. Waking Venus and in deep sleep Mars symbolize the idea of the triumph of love, the triumph of peace over war.
