Sergey Vasilyevich Gerasimov (1885—1964) — Soviet painter, teacher, doctor of arts (1956), Professor, Director of MGHI them. V. I. Surikov in 1943—1948 years, the first Secretary of the Union of artists of the USSR in 1958—1964.
Academician of the Academy of the USSR (1947). People's artist of USSR (1958). Winner of the Lenin prize (1966 — posthumously). Member of the CPSU(b) since 1943.
Works are in the collections of the Tretyakov gallery, the Russian Museum, IRRI and other museums.

He was born In 1885 in Mozhaisk near Moscow in a poor family, the son of the craftsman–Tanner, but managed to get an excellent education, graduating from two leading Moscow art school: Stroganov artistic and industrial School of painting, sculpture and architecture. Studied under Konstantin Korovin, Sergei Ivanov. Most critics include presented to the outstanding masters of Russian impressionism. Favorite genre for the creative life of Sergei Gerasimov remained landscape. Sergei Gerasimov – Russian artist who continued the traditions of Levitan, Vasiliev, Kuindzhi. His works stand out is simply brilliant in the transfer of light and air, freshness and color solutions major, poetic, subtle sense of natural life.
The artist traveled extensively, including touring around Europe and left a series of masterly nature studies, made in Italy, France and the Caucasus.
