"Phantom Corsair" (1938 ) and" Buick Streamliner" (1948)

" Phantom Corsair". The prototype Phantom Corsair was built in 1938-ом. Its Creator, designer Rust Heinz (Heinz Rust) @- the heir to the famous ketchup producer.

Expected to establish small-scale production and sale of car for the price of $12 500@-$14 700, by the way, the Cadillac V-16 cost three times (!) cheaper. The prototype cost $24 000, which, if identified with the modern purchasing power of the dollar will be more than $300 000.

unfortunately, this beauty failed to go to series. Prevented this death of the Creator at the age of 25. Ironically, the cause of death was a car accident, causing the Phantom Corsair has remained in the same-единственном instance.

the Car was very advanced for its time. Took the front wheel drive Cord 810 @- one of the most technically advanced cars of America in those years. Power 8-цилиндрового engine was increased from 125 to 190 horsepower. The maximum speed of a two-ton car reached an impressive 185 km/h. the Body was very large, with sarplanina lines and had virtually no protruding parts: all 4 wheels are closed aerodynamic flaps, rear sloping and extremely skinny (modnymi in those years, the silhouette of a fastback), and for the purity of the surface – exposed have been removed all the door handles, instead of which was visible only button electric locks. The huge radiator is hidden under a sloping and long" nose" of the hood type alligator with a bold, but expressive" gills" air intakes, and small lights" drowned" in the surface of the wings.

the Phantom Corsair had a very unusual landing formula 2 4, that is four passengers in front and two in rear: body width allowed.

Machine starred in the Hollywood film 38-ого year" Young at hearts@" (not to be confused with the eponymous painting 54-ого, where he played Sinatra). On the set for a curvy sleek shape it was nicknamed THE FLYING WOMBAT @Flying - Wombat.

Many of the ideas and the design implemented in it later inspired the designers and designers of large auto companies. There is no doubt that in many respects the car was a revelation for the end of the thirties. Currently, this outstanding concept adorns the collection of the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada.

" Buick Streamliner". American engineer-механик Norman Timbs (Norman E. Timbs) built this" Buick Streamliner" in 1948. What underlies aluminum body with steel chassis — journalists wrote that the car look like a whale or a turtle. However, the beautiful lines and curves of the car can be seen and forms of the female body.

To create a machine Norman spent two and a half years and huge by the standards of that time, 10 thousand dollars.

the Most surprising in this story is the fate of" Buick Streamliner". It was believed that the car was irretrievably lost, but in 2002, this rarity was found in the desert, bought and renovated by David Kraus (David Crouse).

After the restoration, the car was shown at the competition of elegance — Amelia Island Concours d"elegance 2010. Hardly, when you-нибудь will see this beauty on the road. It is likely that this car will never be put up for auction. He"s too valuable and too beautiful so that its owner decided to part with it.
